The Spring Train Write-In

A train moving through an evergreen forest with flowers blooming by the tracks.

Come write on a train with me! You are cordially invited to the inaugural spring train write-in.

On Saturday, March 23, we will leave Seattle King Street Station on a train and write all the way down to Portland. Then we’ll make our merry way to Powell’s Books, an indie book store that takes up an entire city block (and buys used books if you want to sell). From there, the schedule is up to you. I may organize an evening write-in somewhere in Portland if there’s interest. We’ll stay in the city overnight, then meet up Sunday to hop on the train again for another round of writing.

Ticket info:

Amtrak ticket info (copied in text of post below).

IMPORTANT: We need to arrive at the stations an hour before departure so we can ask them to put us all in the same train car. Unfortunately, there is no reliable way to do this in advance. So, here’s the travel schedule.

Departure: Saturday, March 23. Be at Seattle King Street Station (SEA) by 8:45 a.m. The train leaves at 9:45 a.m., and it’s the 11 Coast Starlight to Portland Union Station (PDX). We’ll arrive in Portland at 2:00 p.m. Make sure to choose the UPPER level!

Return: Sunday, March 24. Be at Portland Union Station by 11:00 a.m. The train leaves at 12:00 p.m., and it’s the 506 Amtrak Cascades to Seattle King Street Station. We’ll arrive in Seattle at 3:30 p.m. (The train is one level.)

Tickets on Amtrak are currently $80, but the price will probably rise in the next week or two.

Housing: Portland has many housing options, and I recommend checking out hotels, Airbnb, and VRBO to find what suits you best. I know a few people were looking for roommates, so I encourage you all to make friends below.

Sound like your cup of tea? Please RSVP in the comments so I know who’s coming! If you’re interested in an evening write-in or other events, let me know.
